The mission of the CFC is to work with policy makers to protect, promote, and preserve the camp experience in Florida.
By 2021 the Coalition of Florida Camps will be recognized as the industry expert in Florida, guiding the legislative process with a strong, growing membership.
The CFC came together for the first time in 2013, after a Florida Legislator called a stakeholders meeting to discuss the repercussions of some proposed legislation on the camp world. Two of our current board members were present, and found that they were the only true Camps in the room. The legislator had invited primarily County Parks and Recreation groups.
Realizing that Florida camps were without a presence and a unified voice, Cori Welbes of the Sheriff's Youth Ranches and Matt Ragan of BSA's Camp La- No-Che, coordinated with Government Consultant, Michael Cusick of Michael Cusick and Associates, and formed the Coalition of Florida Camps.
They have worked together for the last three years, along with a growing member base, to educate legislators about the importance of the camp experience both on a personal level in the lives of the campers that they serve, and as important economic contributors in the state of Florida.
